In Ukraine the number of solid fuel (wood pellets) producers in 2011 - 2012 doubled

For the time being in Ukraine solid biofuel is not very popular. However, the new plants producing wood pellets are permanently launched. This can be explained by the rapidly growing demand for “ecofuel” all around the world and particularly in the European Union. Many experts express the opinion that if the business is organized properly, then the production and sale of wood pellets can bring good profits. In this case, the key point in the work of a company is an unimpeded and continued access to necessary raw materials, which can be provided by sawmill installations. This way a company will be independent from external suppliers of wood waste, moreover, it will significantly reduce the cost of the final product.

Wood pellets producers Ukraine 2012

According to the statistics contained in the final release of the base of Ukrainian wood pellet producers and suppliers in 2012 (presented by the Ukrainian Biofuel Portal), in 2012, 44 wood pellet producers were registered on pelleta.com.ua, while in 2011, 23 producers of this biofuel were registered on the portal. This significant growth can be explained by the increase in demand for wood pellets on the domestic and international energy markets. According to the base, the majority of Ukrainian enterprises producing wood pellets are located in Zhytomyr, Kyiv and Donetsk regions. The total potential of the Ukrainian producers is about 300,000 tons per year.

Today, the main importers of wood pellets from Ukraine are Austria, Czech Republic, Germany and Italy. As a rule, the supply contracts are signed with large pellet plants or suppliers who work with producers directly. European countries buy pellets for heating homes, cottages and some social facilities.

The analysts say that today in order to penetrate the external bioenergy market it is necessary to offer only high quality products. Europe has already formulated and documented the requirements for supplied pellets. Now they are strictly classified as industrial and domestic, the main parameter in determining the type of such fuel is the amount of ash obtained during burning. The statistics of the final release of the base of Ukrainian wood pellet producers and suppliers in 2012 reveals that 70% of the pellets produced in Ukraine have ash content less than 1%, 20% pellets have this indicator on the level of 2.1%.

The requirements for wood pellets on the global energy market are rather rigid. Yet it is also should be noted that the quality of this energy source is constantly increasing, thus the demand for it throughout the whole world is growing every year. For example, in Europe, the annual consumption of wood pellets has already reached 10 million tons. This increase in demand affects Ukrainian Biofuel production also, leading to the annual growth of pellet plant number. These companies expand their sales territories, improve their technologies and equipment as well as the quality of products.
