Alstom is to conclude two biomass deals in the UK

Thu-01-1970 Alstom is to conclude two biomass deals in the UK

Developments in energy from biomass have been announced on both sides of the English channel in the last week, as industry continues to go green. Alstom has signed two contracts with Danish power plant specialist Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor (BWSC) for Geared Reaction steam turbines (GRT) to be used in two UK biomass projects. The first contract uses a 23MW GRT for a waste wood combined heat and power (CHP) biomass plant in Widnes, Merseyside that is being developed by BWSC and UK logistics company Stobart Group.

While the second is a 50MW GRT for the Snetterton Biomass Plant, in East Anglia, which will burn energy crops such as straw, cereals and oilseed rape. This news follows on from two previous contracts signed in 2013 & 2014 by Alstom and BWSC for the UK, for the Lisahally CHP biomass plant in Northern Ireland and the Brigg renewable energy plant in Lincolnshire. New biogas plant In central France, a new biogas plant from Xergi is now on the way to the village of Ennezat near Clermont Ferrand in central France. The plant converts manure and organic waste into green energy and fertiliser, and represents another step towards making France more self-sufficient in both renewable energy and environmentally friendly fertiliser.
