The largest solar panel in Dubuque

Sat-18-2016 The largest solar panel in Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Alliant Energy plans to put the state's largest city-based solar panel array in Dubuque.

Two arrays that work in partnership

The energy company announced plans to install two arrays on two sites in partnership with the city and A.Y. McDonald Manufacturing, which is headquartered in Dubuque. The first site is a former A.Y. McDonald foundry near downtown. The second site is on land the city recently acquired near its Industrial Center West.

“Dubuque is extremely pleased to be part of a significant project that will create a meaningful and lasting impact on our community,” said Dubuque Mayor Roy D. Buol in a blog post for Alliant. “Initiatives like this are the key to increasing access to renewable energy and creating a sustainable future.”

Alliant Energy expects the system to be at least four megawatts and begin operating in 2017.

“This collaboration demonstrates the power of a city, a local business and a utility working together,” said John Larsen, senior vice president of Alliant Energy. “The project showcases how we’re looking beyond traditional energy generation to develop renewable energy for customers.”
